Now at this point I thought “ok I should really put that Italian minor to use” and teach my kids some Italian. ![]() To my surprise, after a little time with those apps they were referring to some words in Italian, like asking for una fragola instead of a strawberry. So when they asked me how they can learn Italian, my first step was iPad apps. ![]() ![]() They also have a lot of questions about my time living in Italy and a desire to visit there themselves. The girls love Spanish class at school and whenever they ask me if I know Spanish, I tell them I know Italian and a little Spanish. This however came about more from their direction than me thinking it was time to finally start using my Italian. This year I have committed to teaching them my simple Italian lessons for kids. So besides for reading storybooks here and there in Italian and singing the occasional Italian tune, my children have not had too much more Italian than eating pizza and pasta. Those were the days before I had kids and knew just how many other things there would be to do in a day besides teaching them a language that wasn’t even my first language nor one I speak fluently. Before I had kids, I had grand plans of raising bi-lingual children who spoke Italian fluently when they were young. Besides to help me get around while traveling in Italy, I haven’t used that college minor for too many other things. Ciao ragazzi! Fun fact: I studied Italian in college and finished my minor in Italian while studying abroad.
